Chipewyan Prairie Industry Relations Corporation

The Chipewyan Prairie Industry Relations Corporation (CPIRC) was created by Chipewyan Prairie Dene First Nation (CPDFN) to manage the consultation process with industry, regulators, and government regarding impacts from industrial development and government policy to the CPDFN community, traditional territory, Aboriginal and Treaty rights and uses, and the environment.

Under the direction of CPDFN Chief and Council, the CPIRC acts as the liaison between resource developers, government and regulatory agencies and the CPDFN community, and has a mandate to protect and mitigate impacts to CPDFN Aboriginal and Treaty rights and uses, and the environment, while also working to ensure long term socio-economic well-being and sustainability. The CPIRC identifies and monitors the impacts of development and government policy on the environment, economy, and traditional land use and occupancy both through the consultation process as well as independently through scientific, environmental, socio-economic, and traditional land use (TLU) and food studies. Additionally, the CPIRC serves to build community capacity and protect Indigenous Knowledge through community-based monitoring and education, and the collection and preservation of TLU data.
